Well Canada Cup didn’t go as planned. I stopped after my second skill on my Tramp Optional, and didn’t end up Tumbling. Overall it’s a bummer – I had really good training going into but have a lot things to work on. Provincials was the following weekend, so I trained hard in between the two meets. I have made a list of things that went wrong and how to address for next time, so I have some big changes to make in the next few months, but I really can’t handle having another bad year, so it is time to make the changes.
Provincials had some more highlights than Canada Cup. I competed Double Mini again for the first time in 2 years – Provincials 2015 being the last time I competed it. I was not where I wanted to be on DMT, but it was a good starting point. The system and rules have changed in Canada for DMT – so now it is 4 Prelim passes (previously 2) and 2 Free Finals passes (previously 2 non-free passes). It was interesting to compete 4 passes back to back, and then do another 2 entirely. It was a lot of work, but I hit all 6.
I fell on my Tramp Optional in Prelims again. Eye roll. I finished a routine in Finals but it wasn’t the planned routine and it wasn’t exceptional. Onto the next!
In Tumbling prelims, I rolled my ankle mid first pass, but finished it. I didn’t do my planned second pass. Finals went well – hitting a Personal Best score and finishing both passes to my medium satisfaction.
Overall it was a good experience. I am now exhausted from the last two weeks – including setting up and taking down the Competitive Space twice AND taking down and setting up our floor at Phoenix twice. So it’s been a long few weeks.
I am going to take a few days off to let me ankle come back to the normal, but then it’s business as usual preparing for Canadians in July. Between now and then, I am going to Grande Prairie for work, going to Vancouver to Judge at Westerns and then staying with some friends afterwards, and then training!
